On Sunday, June 7th two adults and five of our youth took 120 packed lunches with them on the train into Boston to Common Cathedral (Sunday worship on Boston Common). We served the lunches, and worshipped on the common, and the youth participated in serving communion. Here are some reflections from our experience.

Kids at Common Cathedral 2026“It was awesome and I would love to feed the Hungry again.” -Celeste (seventh grader)

“I had a lot of fun watching a church service that’s really different from the one that I have and I had a lot of fun, feeding the ducks food and giving food to the people as well.” -Logan (seventh grader)

“Making 120 lunches and transporting them to Boston by train and wagon was the easy part. Handing out the food and serving lemonade was the rewarding part. It felt good to give.

When the service began, I started to realize what was truly happening. This was a safe place where anyone could gather for a free meal and worship—especially those who are facing hardship. As I looked at our children, I couldn't help but think about how innocent and somewhat naïve they are.

Kids at Commonm Cathedral 2026I prayed for the homeless and for their safety. I also prayed for our children, hoping they never have to experience that kind of life. It was heartbreaking to think that these men and women are someone's mother, father, grandparent, son, or daughter, and that they too were once innocent and naïve children.

This experience touched my heart and gave me a perspective I had never fully considered before. It reminded me of the importance of compassion, gratitude, and serving others.”

-Kylah (adult volunteer)

“I loved common cathedral because going to Boston with my church friends was so fun, but the best thing was making a lot of sandwiches and feeding them to the homeless and then having a church service after this was so memorable because that was something not a lot of people get the chance to do. It is so sad to think about that not all of them have a chance to eat every single day and they don’t have a home to live in with family members. I enjoyed doing it so much and I would definitely do it again.” -Gia (seventh grader)

“It’s been a few years since we have been and it was one of my dad’s favorite out reach to do. I was so impressed with all of our group the willingness to prep the lunches, spend the entire day in Boston and experience something different from our normal Sundays. Stay tuned as we’ll be back in the fall!” Katie (Director of Faith Formation)
