Welcome!
Are you looking
for a spiritual home…
a place where you are welcome
just as you are, a beloved child of GOD?
Are you longing
for more than attendance at a service…
for meaningful friendships, honest conversations,
and a community that walks alongside you
through the highs and lows of life?
We welcome you to
The First Congregational Church of Rockport.
Fondly referred to as the “Old Sloop” (a name given to the church by local fishermen in the 1800s who used the steeple as a navigational aid), our church has long been a community meeting place, a beacon of faith, and an unwavering voice for the disadvantaged. But more than anything, we are a community of people who are genuinely committed to knowing one another — not just on Sunday mornings, but in the everyday moments that make up a life. We carry on our founding traditions through worshiping together, growing in faith, and taking a passionate, proactive stance for social justice.
Worship every Sunday at 10:00am
Our services are in person in the sanctuary, live-streamed via Facebook Live and YouTube., and recorded for daily broadcast on Cape Ann’s local cable access channel 9.
Services are informal and unhurried — the kind of gathering where you’ll recognize faces week after week and actually learn the stories behind them. Few of us dress up (including the pastor!). Little ones are welcome, and we mean it — their presence reminds us that community is for everyone.
Christian Education and Faith Formation
Transforming lives for Jesus. Whether child, youth, or adult, our faith formation nurtures holistic discipleship, engaging the head, heart, and hands — and always in the company of others on the same journey. We believe faith grows best in relationship, so we gather in all kinds of settings: the sanctuary, coffee shops, online, and anywhere life happens.
Music
Music is a central part of our life together. We have a chancel choir for adults, a youth choir for young people, and a handbell choir — each one a close-knit group that rehearses weekly and leads worship together. If you love to sing or play, you’ll find more than a musical outlet here. You’ll find friends.
